Overtoun Bridge: Dog Suicide Mystery

One of animal suicide mystery happens in Dumbarton, Scotland very old bridge called the Overtoun Bridge. This place also referred as the “Dog Suicide Bridge”.

• In at least 2005 to till now, dogs have been jumping from this bridge and barely injured or most of times it has been death. The height of this bridge almost 50 feets and suicides occurs in only one spot or place at the bridge. No one knows the exact number but some research says that at least 50 dogs have been dead.

                                

• Rarely dogs can survive but suffer from injuries. One incident happened here when a dog have been already jumped from the bridge and survive, run again the slop and jumped once again.

• Stories of suicide dogs from the bridge for unknown reason has been published online, first of which according to Glasgow Skeptics was published in 2005.

• In 2010 animal behaviorist David sands visited this place and concluded that dogs are killing themselves on purpose. He also noticed that tracking skills with wild animal scent may be triggered. Dogs see the wild animal or smell it and maybe in bridge’s construction an sharpen edges involved it.

• There are many myths about dog’s suicide and this country peoples are having superstitious things related to it. Some of them believes that there are some paranormal factors to jump to their death and some of stories.

• One of the stories is ‘white lady of Overtoun’ maintains a ghostly presence at the down of the bridge and excited the dogs into a bridge frenzy. 

• There are more stories but one of the most terrible was that 32-year-old father threw his baby.  When baby died on that days his father was declared mental and the dogs jump at same spot that the baby was thrown. And some other story was like supernatural things affect the dog’s behavior.

• Scientists don’t believe in dogs are commuting suicide on there own. Even this time mystery is not solved and the owner of dogs refuse taking this path .
